Cyber Love

Cyber Love

(Alfie Brin  and Arthur Ballador)

In a world where technology has become more dominant, people nowadays get something so easy. Through a single click of a finger on our mobile phones and computers, things like sending emails, researching on school works and finding jobs become easier. Technology seems to make a breach on the system of mankind. One of the most used technologies these days is Social Media. It became a blast to people especially to those who are called Millenials. Technology totally conquers man’s lives instead of technology as a partner of man. Are they really aware of how technology subdue them?

Social media was introduced to Filipinos for about years ago. It became a blast to them. According to bartleby.com, social media is any website that allows social interaction. Filipinos joined in the rapid growth of social media users. Teenagers and adults even kids joined in different sites. One of these famous sites is Facebook, it allows everyone to communicate despite locations. According to a report by creative agency, “We Are Social” and social media flatform, “Hootsuite”, Filipino spent their most time on social media for almost 4 hours a day that brought the Philippines in World’s Top Social Media User. It definitely means that Filipinos are really aware of what is happening in the world. Social media let people know current issues like: being fooled, hacked and tricked. Through social media, identity thief is possible, wherein people you meet or might know can steal your identity and make use of it to trick people, steal money, bully others and other crimes that is certainly punishable by law. In spite of these issues, Filipino spent and even depend their lives in social media. Some shared what they eat, what they have, what they do and even where they’re heading to. Their privacy was gone. Some criminals make use of the social media to know what your location is and do bad things possible like seizing your house and get some of your valuable things. Don’t share too much of your life, we understand that you just wanted to share it, but actually to tell you honestly, we don’t care about it. You should be more careful on what you are posting because it is your utmost responsibility. Be aware of your actions and the consequences you might get.

Filipinos also loved to take selfies and upload it. Selfie here, selfie there and selfie everywhere. Why is it that they really loved to take a selfie? Is it that they wanted people to be impressed with the way they look? According to Time, psychiatrists are beginning to consider the compulsion to take selfies as a serious mental health problem. Some became narcissists who loved to seek attention and be admired by others like, “oh you’re so beautiful”. Every one of us is beautiful, we know that, we were created through the image of God.

Some complaint because they were bullied in social media. Bullying is now a crime especially in social media, it is called cyber bullying, that’s the current issue that millenials were facing. Why they were bullied? That’s the main question that needs to be answered. First, don’t love yourself too much in a way that every minute, every hour you will take a selfie and then upload it. Some might like it, but some might be sick of it. Second, don’t give comments to others, who didn’t need your opinion, it could cause trouble. Never give comment to others especially when you know to yourself that it could hurt someone’s feeling. Lastly, respect one another. We have our own way on how to be happy. Respect them and they will respect you too. Most of the time, problems arrived because of our own actions. Just always remember that, think before you act. In every wrong actions, there’s a consequence.

Another use of social media nowadays is to find that someone. Is it safe? Can social media really make instant love? The answers are yet unsolved. There were some who were lucky enough to meet this someone through social media.  But there were also some who got hurt after meeting that someone. Posers in social media were rampant. There were accounts in Facebook, Twitter, Instagram that used someone’s identity to fool you, so be aware.  Never truly trust someone that you met through social media because some might take advantage of that trust. Some might do something bad or worse. There’s nothing wrong in loving someone but be sure to be careful of your heart because you might fall to someone who can be your destiny but can never be yours.

Therefore, some people nowadays depend their lives in social media. Some might say, “I can’t live without my phone”, how exaggerating, isn’t it? Having a social media account is not a problem but make sure to avoid giving or sharing too much of your information because it might be used against you. Technology only do things easier for us, never depend on it that much. God, gave your hands to do work, he gave your feet to walk, he gave your brain to think and he gave your heart to feel and to be taken care of.
