A Father's Love

There was a blind man with two sons. The elder, Mike, was blind too, and twelve years old. While the eight-year-old son, Tim, was not.

It has been five years since his wife left. Her wife was the breadwinner. She was working as a private secretary for a famous company. She died while giving birth to Tim. And it was the time when their suffering began.

All their properties were gone. All their belongings were sold. Until one day, they needed to flee from their house because it was sold. The innocent boys weren’t even had the chance to study.

It was impossible for him to find a job because of his disability.

Now they were peddling on the streets. This was the only way to survive the day, but not enough to feed his children. They slept on the streets, and the only comforts they could find were the torn rags and dirty scraps they found on the garbage.

One gloomy day, while they were walking, a woman in a gray suit came. She asked him if she could adopt his elder son. The woman was willing to give him anything. But he refused. He loved his sons, and even his blindness was not a hindrance. They left the woman standing in the corner of the street. He knew the woman was sincere. But he couldn’t just give his son.

Days had passed, and he was pre-occupied. But when he glanced at them, he could see innocence on their angelic faces. Tim smiled at him, clueless about what would happen next.

It was night and cold. The smell of the garbage was all over the place. He was holding Mike and Tim's faces familiarizing every angle, nose, and cheek as if he would never see them again. He was thinking about what would happen if he was gone. Who would be the one to look after them? He was in deep realization. He was unaware his tears fell down his cheeks.

Again, the woman came in the morning with food and new clothes for them. She was so happy watching the kids eating the bread she had given to them. The man was smiling and nodded.

After a minute, while the kids were still eating, the man stood up. He asked the woman to look after his kids for a while. Then he smiled with sincerity and with obvious pleading in his eyes. The woman bowed her head; she knew what he wanted to convey. The woman gently tapped his shoulder, an assurance that she would willing give a better place and future for them.

The man was slowly walking away from them with his stick on his left hand. He couldn’t stride his legs at first, but he must choose what was best for them. He couldn’t help but cry. His heart was crumpled as if torn slowly and repeatedly. He knew the woman would take good care of his sons better than him.

He never came back.
